The Mike Harland Memorial Cup

The Mike Harland Memorial Cup

We are delighted to announce that for the first time this year 2023 and for many years now, we have a”New” Club Trophy. Mike Harland who many of you will know or have heard about sadly passed away earlier this year. Mike was a true legend, a very long standing Lyndhurst Bowling Club member, Past President, Club Coach, mentor and formidable player of the game of Bowls! In his honour, The Club have decided to have a Trophy presented in his name, to be called “The Mike Harland Memorial Cup” (pictured above) it is to being  awarded each year to the Winner of The Clubs Men’s Singles Competition on Finals Day!

This first year, our Club was delighted to have present on our Finals Day, Mikes daughter Julie and son in law Mark. (Apologies but best wishes were received from Mikes son Craig, a former player at Lyndhurst Bowls Club and daughter in law, Debbie)

Please see photographs of Julie giving a speech:

A response from President John on behalf of the Club:

The first Winner of this new Mens singles trophy – seen in the picture below being presented with the Cup by Julie with Mark – was yours truly myself, President John Howell, together with Runner Up Andy Lowe:

Both players were well known to Mike and in their early days were his “bowls students” like many other Club playing colleagues of Mike!

We also have a new bench many would have sat on or seen, dedicated to Mike’s Memory and very kindly donated to our Club by the “Harland Family” This is the brown bench the second on the right as you come in the main gate.

I’m very sure that with this new “Club Trophy” Mike Harland’s Memory will live on for many more years at Lyndhurst Bowling Club!

John Howell

(President)
