Dear All Members

Here we are mid-August and approaching the Semi Finals and Finals of our very popular “Club Competitions”! Since mid-April players have been involved in many different matches in our 7 Club Competitions. There have been some really good performances and it’s great to see our newer members getting through many of the rounds. We already have confirmed three sets of Finalists. They are Ian Humphrey through to the Rood Cup, Susan Barnes to the Ladies Singles and Andy Bennett and Neil Calderwood through to the “drawn” Handicap Pairs!

The Semi Finals now known and to play are: Rood Cup Mike Winter V Phil Stocker. The Men’s Singles are: John Howell or Neil Calderwood V Colin Firth or Andy Lowe. The Ladies’ Singles are Glad Appleby V Liz Russell. The Open Pairs are: Dereck Pickering and Tim Whittaker V Kevin Burrows and Sharon Calderwood. The Handicap Singles are: Adrian Goddard V Neil Calderwood. The Handicap Pairs are: Mike McCrossan and Mike Winter V Francis Goulding and Kevin Burrows and Finally The Three Woods Singles: Mike Winter V Adrian Goddard, (winner of Quarter Final Mike McCrossan V Neil Calderwood will play Kevin Burrows in the other semi final match! It’s great to see 5 of our newer bowlers reaching several and some of the Competitions Rounds very well done indeed.

All the players welcome spectators and some volunteers to “Mark”, so in order to help you to watch these exciting games ahead, I have listed the times and dates of the “already booked” games for your information and hopefully for you to come up and support!

Friday 16th August at 2pm Three Woods Mike Winter V Adrian Goddard.

Saturday 17th August at 2pm Men’s Singles Colin Firth V Andy Lowe.

Wednesday 21st August at 11am Rood Cup Mike Winter V Phil Stocker and on the same day at 2 pm Handicap Singles Adrian Goddard V Neil Calderwood.

Friday 23rd August at 1pm Three Woods (Quarter) Final Mike McCrossan V Neil Calderwood.

Wednesday 28th August at 10.30am Men’s Singles John Howell V Neil Calderwood.

Saturday 31st August at 2.30pm Open Pairs Kevin Burrows and Sharon Calderwood V Dereck Pickering and Tim Whittaker.

Sunday 1st September at 11am Handicap Pairs Mike McCrossan and Mike Winter V Francis Goulding and Kevin Burrows.

These 8 matches are now booked with just 2-3 others now to arrange so great spectator viewing for our members!!!

Our Finals “Weekend” is the afternoon of Saturday 7th and all day Sunday 8th September (full details of times of Finals will be published nearer that weekend by Captain Adrian). On Sunday after the Finals there is a really good social arranged; more details to follow later from Joyce! If you have been inspired by matches you’ve watched this season and you didn’t enter, why not consider the 2025 season for you (especially Ladies in the Singles) to enter? Get your names down and have a go!
