September Successes at our Club

September has been a really busy month at our club with our Finals Day but I wanted to share with you some of our other successes.

1. Bournemouth and District Bowling Association, Saturday Morning Triples League. On the 2nd September we played our final league match which we won! After that game we were confirmed as Champions of League Section 5 B 😀 ! This was our first ever venture into this Association and we gained promotion in our first year not bad. We are now moving up to Section 4 in 2024 season! Congrats go to the 17 players who competed in the matches for this result and to Saturday Captain Neil Calderwood for organising and coordinating the matches!

2. The Bridle Trophy. Our Inter-Club Trophy played every year was an excellent day on Sunday 24th September with bowling and socialising enjoyed by all. The eventual Triples winners (pictured below) were Adrian Goddard, Tim Whittaker and Helen Bromley congrats to them. Also to the Runners Up  who were Sharon Calderwood, Kev Burrows and Mike Winter (a new member in his first year – well done Mike!) Thanks go to Match Secretary Keith Hayes (Mr Cream Tea) who organised the Trophy and coordinated the food afterwards!

3. Our Club Saturday Morning League. This was the second year of running this popular and well-supported part of our Bowling calendar and weekly on a Saturday Morning of course. On the 30th September the remaining matches were played to decide the eventual winner. That turned out to be John Gardner (pictured below) with runner up Kev Burrows and third place Sue Firth. Well done John and to the runners up. A total of 33 players took part in this Saturday League over the season which worked out an average of 8.5 times each so thank you members for your support! A big thanks also must go to Dereck Pickering who organised and coordinated the League throughout the season!

4. Captains Day. This is an Annual “Fun usually Fancy Dress Competition” followed by a Theme and this year it was a Mexican Theme for dress and for food! As you can see by the picture some really good outfits with members joining in the fun. The afternoon concluded with some fantastic Mexican food enjoyed by all. (Special thanks go to Sue Firth, lovely fajitas and all the Food Team; great!). The bar flowed as did the socialising and an all round success for our very last day of our “Green being Open”. Winner of the best Fancy Dress went to  “Señorita Susan Barnes” – well done ! The event is played Ladies V Gentlemen’s and the Winners on the day were The Gentleman! A big thanks go of course to Men’s Captain Adrian Goddard and Ladies’ Captain Susan Barnes for organising the afternoon!

Hi John, Thanks for your email. I hope you are keeping well.

I just wanted to say that the Bridle Cup runners up included me, Mike Winter (and not Mike Evans as stated in the email!) It’s not a biggie, but in case it’s recorded anywhere I just wanted the correct name recorded. It’s maybe a bit confusing now because there are lots of Mikes, especially among the new members.

    Thanks John Kind regards

    Mike Winter

Mike thank you and I am so sorry? I was given the info which obviously was wrong which I will get sorted in the next week or so! The sentiment is the same you did brilliantly in your first year at our Club so well done Mike! John H
