I’m pleased to report that the rain held off after the really hot spell and the Semi-Finals and Final went ahead and were completed. A big thank you to the 12 spectators who came along to support the finalists; including a surprise appearance from “The Bowling Legend”: Mike Harland! It was great to see you Mike at the Club and good luck with your health. (Advice from the side-lines given out by Mike to the players, as always and appreciated.)
Semi Finals
Shirley Adlem and David Stride on Rink 2, edged out Mike McCrossan and Derek Pickering to win through to the Final, (Derek in his first year at our Club). In the other on Rink 3, John Howell and Peter Smith came through beating Malcolm Holmes and Lotty Kirwan to secure a Finals place.
The Final
The match took place shortly after and what a close and entertaining game it proved to be! Shirley and David went off like a train going to 12-1 up against John and Peter. Some steady play ensued and gradually John and Peter came right back into the match, heading into the last end at 17-15 up. A thrilling last end and congratulations going to Shirley and David who gained 3 shots, winning 18-17 by the one shot. Well done to them both and especially to David (a new member in his first full year at our Club!)
Many thanks go to all 11 Pairs who took part in the Competition (22 Club Members) in a difficult year for our Club. You all really made this friendly competition well worthwhile and enjoyable, according to the reviews received. Thanks also go to the spectator support, which was very good. It really was 2 good Saturdays of Bowling at LBC!!

Very well done John, our President, in running the pairs competition for the following 2 Saturdays which was enjoyed by all. John ran this single handedly and I applaud him for taking this initiative, which was in line with what is happening in most of the other clubs in our area. All the rules were strictly observed, especially the sanitising of equipment and distancing, and it was evident by the people who turned up to watch that everyone had a very good time, witnessing some excellent matches. We are very fortunate to have John as our President.

I would just like to say a massive thank you for the fantastic welcome I’ve received since joining the club. I have been so grateful for the support and encouragement from the members. What a final, it was so amazing to play in.
I would also like to thank Shirley for asking me to be her bowls partner and passing on some of her experience.
