I am pleased to let you know the results of our Club Open Pairs Competition held yesterday in 30 + degrees temperatures. (very hot indeed)
Firstly my thanks go to all those members who took part and hopefully had a nice, enjoyable days bowling in what has been a difficult year for all us bowlers. Once again we have demonstrated that, as a Club and as individuals, we can follow the guidelines put in place in respect of the Covid situation. We have shown we can bowl safely, enjoy our sport and not knowingly put anyone in any danger.
Now the Results
11 Pairs (a mixture of Men and Ladies) bowled, that is 22 people throughout the day. May I also thank the 10 spectators who attended during the day at different times, to support those bowling? Because of the extreme heat some of the ends were by mutual consent, reduced during the afternoon period. We did however manage to complete the whole program of 22 games that’s 2 matches per pair. We also stayed carefully well within the maximum number of no more than 30 persons on the premises throughout the day.
AM Session Winners: John Howell and Peter Smith
Runners Up: Mike McCrossan and Derek Pickering
PM Session Winners Shirley Adlem and David Stride
Runners Up: (on woods aggregate) Malcolm Holmes and Lotty Kirwan. Congratulations and thank you to all of you who took part, Adrian Goddard and Keith Hayes, Deidre and Andy Bennett, Colin and Sue Firth, Jim Clifford and Mike Redding, Susan Barnes and John Gardner, Myra Mouland and June Pink, and Neil and Sharon Calderwood.

Draw of Matches: (Rinks will be drawn on the day using Rinks 1 and 2.) Players The Dress Code is the same as per yesterday. Match 1. John Howell and Peter Smith play Malcolm Holmes and Lotty Kirwan
Match 2. Mike McCrossan and Derek Pickering play Shirley Adlem and David Stride. (Both matches will take place at the same time from 9-30am.)
The Final will follow after a short refreshment break, on Rink 1. Spectators are very welcome to attend of course and hoping you will see some good quality bowling to enjoy. (Maybe you are a club member who has been thinking of coming up: here’s an opportunity to see how your Club has re introduced bowling safely for bowlers and spectators alike. Please all enjoy the morning and the games.
John Howell. President.
I want to say a really big thank you to our President, John, on running a highly successful open pairs competition over the past 2 Saturdays – and single handedly at that. It all went so well and the people who came to watch were treated to bowling of a very high standard. All that was missing was tea and cakes! We are very fortunate to have such a hard working President in charge of the club.
Susan
John, it is clear that this was a well run competition notwithstanding the restrictions placed on the players. I came up for the semi finals and thoroughly enjoyed being a spectator but would have loved to have played again. It was nice to see we had new faces in the sides and that can only be good for the club. Bowls is a super game, very social and an activity where people can make new friends. I must try and come up again. Good wishes to all. Mike Harland
