Singles Finals Results and Report.

Last Saturdays LBC 2020 Singles Semis/Final proved to be a success with some excellent bowling and interesting results.

In the Semi Final between Malcolm Holmes and John Howell, Malcolm started steady but John soon came into the game going into the lead onto a score of 9 with Malcolm not far behind. Malcolm fought back with good bowling passing John and holding off several strong challenges to run out winner 21-11. In the other Semi Final Mike McCrossan literally tore into the lead against John Gardner 13-0 ahead after 5 ends! However to his credit John settled and very much came back into the game managing a very respectable 12 points losing 21-12 overall.

The Final between Malcolm and Mike was a really good game for the 17-20 spectators who stayed to watch and support. (Thank you all). Malcolm went in front but by the half way mark of 10 ends Mike was very much in the game at 11-9 ahead. He built on this lead and apart from 2 ends suddenly was sitting on 20-13 points. It looked all over except his opponent Malcolm had other ideas. Malcom secured the “Jack” moved the mat up and produced some accurate and steady bowling with a scoreline of a 1, then a 4 and finally a 3 to come in winner at 21-20!!! Congratulations to Malcolm as a worthy winner of this “Friendly Singles Comp 2020” and well done to the runner up Mike and the “Two Johns ” for getting into the Semi Finals. Thank you also to all bowlers who took part. I hope you enjoyed your games and you certainly made this un- expected Singles Comp a success (safely of course) in our difficult year of the Covid Virus! at LBC.

Reminder: Roll Up 9-45 am Friday (weather permitting). Our Final Roll Up of this Season (extended by an extra week) at 2 pm Saturday, All Welcome. Volunteers needed at 9 am Sunday to put our equipment away please!

I think we should all say a great big thank you to President John, who once more organised the excellent Singles competition. These sort of events do not take place without a great deal of planning, especially with regard to making our club COVID-safe to run these. Last week’s semis were very exciting and it was good to see so many turn up to watch. Hopefully the rain will stop and we can all meet at 2 pm to have a last bowl!!
